THE IMAGES
Andy Warhol was photographed by William John Kennedy in a vacant lot in Queens, with Warhol’s flowers canvas painting as a backdrop.
“I used to drive in from Long Island through an area with these black-eyed Susans, 6ft tall. I knew I had to shoot Andy and his flower paintings in this marvelous environment. I positioned him in the field, surrounded by the flowers. I made up a huge bouquet and had him hold that, and then shot this whole sequence. This was one of the most beautiful involvements I’ve had with an artist and his work.”
